Dua for Waking Up
The first sunnah of the day takes five seconds: thanking the One who returned your soul to you. The Prophet ﷺ said it the moment he woke.
الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي أَحْيَانَا بَعْدَ مَا أَمَاتَنَا وَإِلَيْهِ النُّشُورُ
Alḥamdu lillāhil-ladhī aḥyānā baʿda mā amātanā wa ilayhin-nushūr.
"Praise is to Allah who gave us life after causing us to die, and to Him is the resurrection."

How and when to say it
Say it before reaching for anything else — it was the Prophet’s ﷺ first act on waking.
It mirrors the sleeping dua: at night you entrust your soul, in the morning you thank Allah for its return.

What is the first dua when you wake up?
