Dua for Parents
The most powerful duas for your parents are the ones Allah Himself put in the Qur’an. The first is for their mercy in this life; the second, taught by Ibrahim (as), reaches into the Day of Account.
رَّبِّ ارْحَمْهُمَا كَمَا رَبَّيَانِي صَغِيرًا
Rabbi irḥamhumā kamā rabbayānī ṣaghīrā.
"My Lord, have mercy upon them as they brought me up when I was small."

رَبَّنَا اغْفِرْ لِي وَلِوَالِدَيَّ وَلِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ يَوْمَ يَقُومُ الْحِسَابُ
Rabbanā-ghfir lī wa liwālidayya wa lil-mu’minīna yawma yaqūmul-ḥisāb.
"Our Lord, forgive me and my parents and the believers on the Day the account is established."

How and when to say it
Qur’an 17:24 comes right after the command to lower the wing of humility to your parents — dua and conduct are taught together.
Both duas work whether your parents are living or have passed; the Prophet ﷺ taught that a righteous child’s dua continues to benefit a parent after death (Sahih Muslim 1631).

What is the best dua for parents?
"Rabbi irhamhuma kama rabbayani saghira" — "My Lord, have mercy upon them as they brought me up when I was small" (Qur’an 17:24). It is the dua Allah Himself teaches for parents.
Can I make dua for parents who have passed away?
Yes — the Prophet ﷺ said that when a person dies, their deeds end except three, one of which is a righteous child who prays for them (Sahih Muslim 1631).
