Dua for Protection

Sourced from the Qur’an and canonical hadith collections · updated July 2026

The Prophet ﷺ taught one sentence which, said three times in the morning and evening, carries this promise: nothing will suddenly harm the one who says it.

Bismillāhil-ladhī lā yaḍurru maʿa-smihi shay’un fil-arḍi wa lā fis-samā’i wa huwas-Samīʿul-ʿAlīm.

"In the name of Allah, with whose name nothing on earth or in the heavens can cause harm — and He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing."

Sunan Abi Dawud 5088, Jami’ at-Tirmidhi 3388 — said three times in the morning and three in the evening

How and when to say it

Say it three times after Fajr and three times after Maghrib/before nightfall — that is how the narration frames "morning and evening".

It sits alongside the other protective sunnahs: Ayatul Kursi after each prayer, and the three Quls in the morning and evening.

It takes under thirty seconds total — one of the highest return-on-time habits in the sunnah.
