Dua for anxiety: what to recite when your chest feels tight
Anxiety doesn't wait for a convenient hour. It shows up on the commute, in bed at 2am, in the middle of a normal Tuesday. This is a short, honest collection of what the Qur'an and the Prophet ๏ทบ actually gave us for those moments โ every quote sourced, every verse word for word.
The verse to hold onto first
โThose who have believed and whose hearts are assured by the remembrance of Allah. Unquestionably, by the remembrance of Allah hearts are assured.โ
Qur'an 13:28 ยท Saheeh International
Notice what the verse claims and what it doesn't. It doesn't promise the problem disappears โ it says the heart settles in remembrance. That's the realistic promise this whole page is built on.
The Prophet's ๏ทบ dua against anxiety

Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-hammi wal-hazan, wal-'ajzi wal-kasal, wal-bukhli wal-jubn, wa dala'id-dayni wa ghalabatir-rijal.
O Allah, I seek refuge in You from anxiety and sorrow, from weakness and laziness, from miserliness and cowardice, from the burden of debt and from being overpowered by men.
Sahih al-Bukhari 6369
Worth pausing on: the Prophet ๏ทบ named anxiety and sorrow first, in one breath with debt and powerlessness โ fourteen centuries before anyone called these "mental load". The tradition took your feelings seriously long before the world did.
The dua of Yunus โ for when it's heaviest

La ilaha illa anta, subhanaka, inni kuntu minaz-zalimin.
There is no deity except You; exalted are You. Indeed, I have been of the wrongdoers.
Qur'an 21:87 โ the cry of Prophet Yunus from inside the whale; the Prophet ๏ทบ commended it as a supplication by which distress is relieved (Jami' at-Tirmidhi 3505)
Three anchors from the Qur'an for anxious moments
โFor indeed, with hardship [will be] ease. Indeed, with hardship [will be] ease.โ
Qur'an 94:5โ6 ยท Saheeh International
โAllah does not charge a soul except [with that within] its capacityโฆโ
Qur'an 2:286 ยท Saheeh International
โโฆAnd whoever relies upon Allah โ then He is sufficient for him. Indeed, Allah will accomplish His purpose.โ
Qur'an 65:3 ยท Saheeh International
A simple 3-step practice (5 minutes)
- Slow the breath, then the tongue. Repeat Hasbunallahu wa ni'mal-wakil โ "Sufficient for us is Allah, and [He is] the best Disposer of affairs" (Qur'an 3:173) โ slowly, 33 times. Count on your fingers or a tasbih.
- Read one anchor verse from above โ out loud if you can. One verse, fully, beats ten skimmed.
- Say the Prophet's ๏ทบ dua (Bukhari 6369, above) once, unhurried, in whichever language your heart speaks.
