Which Surah to Read for Success
Search results will happily sell you a success surah. The Qur’an is more interesting: it opens Surah al-Mu’minun with the words "successful indeed are the believers" — then spends ten verses defining what that means.
The Qur’an’s definition of success
"Successful indeed are the believers" (Qur’an 23:1) — followed by the traits: humility in prayer, turning from the pointless, giving, guarding trusts and promises (23:2–11). Success (falāḥ) in the Qur’an is a character, not an outcome.
Surah al-Asr — the two-line success formula
Three verses: everyone is in loss, except those who believe, do good, and counsel each other to truth and patience (Qur’an 103:1–3). Imam ash-Shafi‘i said if people reflected only on this surah, it would suffice them.

Which surah should I read before an exam?
No specific surah is authentically prescribed for exams. The authentic practice is Musa’s dua (Qur’an 20:25–28) and "Allahumma la sahla illa ma ja’altahu sahla" (Ibn Hibban 2427) — alongside preparation.
What does the Qur’an say about success?
It defines success as character: Surah al-Mu’minun 23:1–11 lists the traits of "the successful", and Surah al-Asr gives the four-part formula — faith, good deeds, truth, patience.
