Dua for Exams
There is no magic "read this seven times and pass" dua in the sunnah — that is folklore. What there is, is better: a dua to ask for knowledge itself, a dua for when a task is heavier than you are, and the dua a prophet made before the hardest moment of his life.
رَبِّ زِدْنِي عِلْمًا
Rabbi zidnī ʿilmā.
"My Lord, increase me in knowledge."
Qur’an 20:114 — the only thing Allah commanded the Prophet ﷺ to ask for increase of
اللَّهُمَّ لَا سَهْلَ إِلَّا مَا جَعَلْتَهُ سَهْلًا وَأَنْتَ تَجْعَلُ الْحَزْنَ إِذَا شِئْتَ سَهْلًا
Allāhumma lā sahla illā mā jaʿaltahu sahlā, wa anta tajʿalul-ḥazna idhā shi’ta sahlā.
"O Allah, nothing is easy except what You make easy — and You make the difficult, when You will, easy."

رَبِّ اشْرَحْ لِي صَدْرِي وَيَسِّرْ لِي أَمْرِي وَاحْلُلْ عُقْدَةً مِّن لِّسَانِي يَفْقَهُوا قَوْلِي
Rabbi-shraḥ lī ṣadrī, wa yassir lī amrī, waḥlul ʿuqdatan min lisānī, yafqahū qawlī.
"My Lord, expand my chest for me, ease my task for me, and untie the knot from my tongue so they understand my speech."

How and when to say it
Say "Rabbi zidni ’ilma" as you begin to study — you are asking the Source of knowledge for the very thing you seek.
Say "Allahumma la sahla..." when the material feels immovable, and Musa’s dua before you walk into the exam or interview.
Then do the work: the sunnah is tie-your-camel-and-trust — dua and preparation together, never one instead of the other.

What is the best dua for exam success?

Is there a dua to read 7 times before an exam?
No — the "read it a set number of times to pass" formulas are folk, not sunnah. The authentic duas above are said sincerely, alongside real preparation. Effort is part of the tawakkul.
What dua helps with memory and understanding?
"Rabbi zidni ’ilma" (20:114) is the Qur’anic dua for knowledge, and "Rabbi-shrah li sadri wa yassir li amri" (20:25) asks for an open, eased mind. Pair them with consistent study and rest.
