Dreaming of blood: what the Islamic tradition says
In Islamic dream interpretation, blood is read in several ways, and none of them is an omen. It was sometimes read as unlawful gain, sometimes as harm, and sometimes, inverted, as a burden or sin leaving the body. Blood is a startling thing to wake from, so here is the heritage, framed calmly and honestly.

In a long dream of the Prophet ﷺ, a man swimming in a river of that colour stood for one who consumes usury. It echoes the tradition's link between blood and unlawful gain, and it was his vision about a sin, not a verdict on you.
“When the satan plays with any one of you in the state of sleep”

A man told the Prophet ﷺ he had dreamt that his head was cut off, and the Prophet ﷺ laughed, offered no interpretation, and told him not to mention it to people. A gory dream can be exactly that, and nothing more.
What the classical tradition reads into it
- Blood was sometimes read as unlawful wealth (mal haram), a gain that would not sit right with the dreamer. It points toward checking where things come from, not toward fear.
- Bleeding was read by some as harm, illness or a wrong done, and by others as a burden or sin being released and leaving the body. The same image carries opposite readings.
- Someone else's blood shifted the reading toward that person or relationship, symbolically and never literally. It is not information about them, and it is no reason to suspect or fear anyone.
- The amount, the source and the feeling all bent the reading. Interpreters treated these as careful, uncertain and personal, never as a code in which one detail produces one fixed meaning.
