Dreaming of cats: what the Islamic tradition says

In the Islamic interpretive tradition, a cat in a dream was read with some ambivalence: sometimes a cunning person close to the home, sometimes a loyal servant of the household, sometimes simple comfort. • A cat was often read as a person close to the home who may be cunning or self-serving. Read the other way, it could be a loyal servant of the household. The same animal carried both.
• A scratching or hostile cat was sometimes read as a quarrel, a theft, or trouble from someone familiar. That is a reading of a symbol, not a fact about anyone you know.
• A calm, affectionate cat was read more kindly, as comfort or a harmless companion. If the cat in your dream was curled up and peaceful, this is the strand closest to it.
• As so often, these readings pull in different directions. That is precisely why the tradition treated them as uncertain and personal, and never as a fixed meaning.
