Dreaming of drowning in Islam is most often read as feeling overwhelmed, by worry, by pressure, by the weight of worldly affairs, and being rescued is read as relief. It is usually an anxious dream rather than a meaningful one, and it is not a warning of death or harm. Here is what the tradition says, gently.

Allah does not charge a soul except [with that within] its capacity. It will have [the consequence of] what [good] it has gained, and it will bear [the consequence of] what [evil] it has earned. "Our Lord, do not impose blame upon us if we have forgotten or erred. Our Lord, and lay not upon us a burden like that which You laid upon those before us. Our Lord, and burden us not with that which we have no ability to bear. And pardon us; and forgive us; and have mercy upon us. You are our protector, so give us victory over the disbelieving people."

A drowning dream often carries the feeling of being in too deep. This verse answers that feeling directly: what you are carrying has been measured by the One who knows you.
So We responded to him and saved him from the distress. And thus do We save the believers.

Yunus called out to Allah from within the darknesses, swallowed by the fish, and the Qur'an tells his story as one of rescue. It is a good verse to hold if you woke feeling pulled under.
Waking up gasping is hard, and I am sorry the night felt that way. Drowning dreams often visit when life has been asking more of us than we can hold. You do not have to solve all of it this morning. Just notice one thing that has felt too deep lately. Which weight would you like to set down in front of Allah first?
A drowning dream is frightening, but it is not an omen and it is not a message about your life or anyone's death. Most often it is a tired heart speaking. Seek refuge in Allah, turn onto your other side, and let it go. Then look gently at what has felt too heavy lately, and hand it to Him.
Thank Allah for it. If you tell it, tell someone who loves you or someone with sound judgment.

Sahih Muslim 2261, 2262, 2263 · the Prophet ﷺ said it “will not harm him” (Sahih al-Bukhari 6985)
In Hush you can tell Layla everything you saw. She listens, reminds you what the sunnah says, and helps your heart settle. Never a fortune.

More often than not, though, it is an anxious dream from your own mind, and it is not a forecast of anything in your life.
No. There is no established Islamic teaching that a drowning dream foretells a death, yours or anyone's. Only Allah knows the unseen (Qur'an 27:65), and the appointed time is with Him. If the dream frightened you, seek refuge in Allah, blow lightly to your left three times and turn over, and it will not harm you (Sahih Muslim 2261 and 2262).
Some interpreters read seeing another person drowning as worry for them, or a sense that they are struggling. It is not a sign that harm will reach them, and it is no reason to fear for them. If they were on your mind, the kindest response is a quiet dua for their ease.
Being pulled out of the water, or swimming to the shore, is widely read in the tradition as relief: a worry easing or a heavy season lifting. It is a gentle ending to a hard dream. Thank Allah for the ease you felt on waking, without treating it as a promise.
