Dreaming of water: what the Islamic tradition says
In Islamic dream interpretation, water is read almost entirely by its state. Clear, sweet water was read warmly, as life, provision and purity, while murky, bitter or flooding water was read as difficulty or trial. Whether it was clear or troubled is the first thing to notice. Here is that heritage, framed honestly.
What the Qur’an says
أَوَلَمْ يَرَ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوٓا۟ أَنَّ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضَ كَانَتَا رَتْقًۭا فَفَتَقْنَٰهُمَا ۖ وَجَعَلْنَا مِنَ ٱلْمَآءِ كُلَّ شَىْءٍ حَىٍّ ۖ أَفَلَا يُؤْمِنُونَ
Have those who disbelieved not considered that the heavens and the earth were a joined entity, and We separated them and made from water every living thing? Then will they not believe?

The Qur'an ties water to life itself, which makes the tradition's warm reading of clear water easy to understand.
وَمَا يَسْتَوِى ٱلْبَحْرَانِ هَٰذَا عَذْبٌۭ فُرَاتٌۭ سَآئِغٌۭ شَرَابُهُۥ وَهَٰذَا مِلْحٌ أُجَاجٌۭ ۖ وَمِن كُلٍّۢ تَأْكُلُونَ لَحْمًۭا طَرِيًّۭا وَتَسْتَخْرِجُونَ حِلْيَةًۭ تَلْبَسُونَهَا ۖ وَتَرَى ٱلْفُلْكَ فِيهِ مَوَاخِرَ لِتَبْتَغُوا۟ مِن فَضْلِهِۦ وَلَعَلَّكُمْ تَشْكُرُونَ
And not alike are the two bodies of water. One is fresh and sweet, palatable for drinking, and one is salty and bitter. And from each you eat tender meat and extract ornaments which you wear, and you see the ships plowing through [them] that you might seek of His bounty; and perhaps you will be grateful.

The Qur'an itself notices that not all water is alike. The dream tradition makes a similar distinction, reading sweet water and bitter water very differently.
What the classical tradition reads into it
- Clear, sweet water was read warmly, as life, provision, purity and ease. Many interpreters also read it as faith and knowledge, the things a heart lives on.
- Murky, dark or bitter water was read as difficulty or confusion, or as a spiritual murkiness waiting to be cleared. It describes a state to work through, not a sentence passed on you.
- A flood, or water you are drowning in, was often read as an overwhelming trial or fitna, the kind of thing you seek refuge in Allah from rather than sit and fear.
- Still or flowing, drinking or sinking: each detail shifted the reading. Interpreters treated these as careful, uncertain reasoning about one person's life, never as a fixed table of meanings.

The honest bottom line
Water in a dream is a symbol, not a prophecy. Only Allah knows the unseen (Qur'an 27:65). Let clear water turn you toward gratitude for what already sustains you. Let troubled water send you to the sunnah and to dua, not to fear. Either way, the One who sends down the rain is the One you can bring it to.
